The present status of the healthcare system in West Bengal brings into light several dimensions, which needs to be addressed in terms of the prevalent inadequacies in the system. In order to improve the health services infrastructure and the quality of health services in the state, the Chamber has been highly active in this sector. The event calendar of ICC comprises of a Healthcare Summit every year, which is organized at a very large scale with national and regional level players making their presence felt through wholesome participation.
The Healthcare Summit gives a universal platform to the government and private players to interact and discuss issues of common concern and make recommendations to the concerned ministry for necessary action.
In addition to the existing services to the sector, Indian Chamber Of Commerce, along with West Bengal State Aids Prevention & Control Society has jointly undertaken a workplace programme in IT/BPO sectors to disseminate best practices on HIV/AIDS.
The programme was launched on 15TH July 2009 in a glittering ceremony in the presence of Mr. Syed Md. Afsar, Specialist HIV/AIDS, National Project Coordinator, International Labour Organisation, Mr. Sukumar Bhattacharyya, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of Information Technology, Govt. of West Bengal, Mrs Rakhi Sarkar, Honorary Trustee, ICC Calcutta Foundation and with representatives from The West Bengal State AIDS Prevention & Control Society.
ICC has set up a half yearly award to recognize the company that provide exemplary leadership and implement result –oriented HIV/AIDS programmes. This award will be given in partnership with technical agencies like ILO, UNAIDS, NACO and other relevant agencies. A sound criterion for such an award will be developed, which will form the basis for selection of company for the award. The first award function will be organized on 1st December 2009 on World AIDS Day.
